Java/Kotlin Backend Engineer (Spring Framework)

Kolkata, West Bengal, India (Hybrid)Full-timeEngineeringPosted 2026-09-15

Role Overview

About the Role

We are looking for a Java Backend Engineer with 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience working with Java and the Spring Framework at any capacity. In this role, you will work alongside senior engineers to design, build, and maintain mission-critical backend services, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and database migrations. You will be exposed to enterprise software architecture (Ports and Adapters / Clean Architecture), automated CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments, gaining high-velocity mentorship and end-to-end feature ownership.

Daily Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Feature Engineering: Develop and maintain clean, testable business services and APIs using Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.

  • API & Contract Design: Build RESTful endpoints and assist in GraphQL schema integrations for web and mobile frontends.

  • Database & Persistence: Design relational data models, write efficient SQL queries, and manage database migrations using Flyway and PostgreSQL.

  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Author comprehensive unit and integration tests using JUnit 5 and Mockito to guarantee reliability and prevent regressions.

  • Code Craftsmanship: Participate in peer code reviews, follow strict architectural boundary rules (constructor injection, zero domain leakage), and maintain high documentation standards.

  • Continuous Learning: Expand your skill set into Kotlin, reactive JVM programming, containerization (Docker), and cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS).

Qualifications & Experience

What We Are Looking For

  • 1 – 2 years of professional software engineering experience developing backend applications in Java/Kotlin.

  • Hands-on experience with the Spring Framework in any capacity (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, or Spring Security) through work experience, structured internships, or production personal projects.

  • Solid Computer Science Foundations: Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Data Structures, Algorithms, and clean code principles.

  • Relational Databases: Practical experience with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB), understanding schemas, foreign keys, indexes, and transactions.

  • Testing Habits: Familiarity with writing automated unit tests using JUnit 5 and Mockito.

  • Tooling & Workflow: Working knowledge of Git version control and modern build tools (Gradle or Maven).

  • Growth Mindset: Strong curiosity, proactive problem-solving mindset, and eagerness to learn Kotlin and modern architecture patterns.

Bonus Proficiencies

Nice-to-Haves (Not Strictly Required)

  • Exposure to or interest in learning Kotlin.

  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL specific features (JSONB, Flyway migrations).

  • Experience with or conceptual understanding of GraphQL (Netflix DGS or Spring for GraphQL).

  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Docker Compose).

  • Understanding of Clean Architecture / Hexagonal Architecture principles.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).

Benefits & Environment

What We Offer

  • Direct Mentorship: Learn directly from seasoned architects and senior engineers who care about engineering excellence.

  • Modern Tech Stack: Work with cutting-edge tools (Java 21 / Kotlin, Spring Boot 3.5+, PostgreSQL 16, Vite/React 19). No legacy Java 8 or outdated monolith maintenance.

  • High Impact: Your code ships directly to production; you will own features from schema design to deployment.

  • Transparent Engineering Culture: Meritocratic, highly collaborative, zero-ego team focused on building robust products.

  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary package with performance bonuses and growth opportunities.
