Cloud Engineer (Linux, Any Cloud, Python)
Role Overview
About the Role
We are looking for a Cloud Engineer with 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience working with Linux, public cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure), and Python at any capacity. In this role, you will help design, provision, automate, and monitor production cloud environments across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). You will work closely with senior infrastructure architects to manage Linux hosts, author Python automation tooling, maintain Docker container stacks, and participate in Terraform infrastructure as code (IaC) workflows.
Daily Responsibilities
What You Will Do
Cloud Infrastructure Management: Provision, configure, and maintain virtual machine instances, VPC networking, static IPs, and firewall rules across GCP and AWS.
Linux Systems Administration: Administer Debian/Ubuntu Linux hosts, configure systemd services, monitor disk/memory pressure, manage swap space, and maintain log rotation.
Automation & Scripting: Author clean Python and Bash scripts for automated health probes, database backups, telemetry collection, and deployment hooks.
Container Orchestration: Manage multi-container deployments using Docker and Docker Compose, configure Caddy reverse proxies, and ensure zero-downtime rolling deploys.
CI/CD & Security: Maintain GitHub Actions deployment pipelines using keyless Workload Identity Federation (WIF) and adhere to least-privilege IAM policies.
FinOps & Cost Governance: Track cloud resource utilization, eliminate idle assets, and optimize compute sizing to maintain tight monthly budget guardrails.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Assist in writing and reviewing declarative Terraform configurations for automated, repeatable cloud infrastructure.
Qualifications & Experience
What We Are Looking For
1 – 2 years of professional software engineering or systems experience working with Linux, cloud infrastructure, and Python.
Strong Linux Fundamentals: Comfortable navigating Linux terminal environments, managing processes (ps, htop, systemctl), managing file permissions, and debugging network connectivity (curl, netstat, lsof).
Hands-on Cloud Experience: Practical experience with any major cloud provider (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Microsoft Azure) in any capacity (compute instances, cloud storage, networking, IAM).
Python Scripting: Ability to write clean, maintainable Python scripts to automate tasks, interact with cloud REST APIs, or parse operational logs.
Container Basics: Working knowledge of Docker (building images, writing Dockerfiles, and using Docker Compose).
Version Control: Familiarity with Git workflows (branching, commits, pull requests).
Problem-Solving Mindset: Methodical troubleshooting approach, high attention to operational safety, and curiosity to learn.
Bonus Proficiencies
Nice-to-Haves (Not Strictly Required)
Foundational experience with Terraform or OpenTofu (writing basic modules, understanding state files).
Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) specifically (Compute Engine, VPCs, Artifact Registry).
Exposure to GitHub Actions and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with reverse proxies like Caddy or NGINX.
Basic understanding of relational database operations (e.g. PostgreSQL backups and restoration).
Benefits & Environment
What We Offer
Direct Mentorship: Learn directly from senior cloud architects who have built systems processing millions of transactions.
Zero Legacy Cruft: Work on modern, clean infrastructure patterns (WIF, automated TLS, modern Linux kernels). No convoluted, unmaintained legacy setups.
High Impact: Opportunity to contribute directly to production deployments, cost audits, and automation frameworks from day one.
Transparent Engineering Culture: Meritocratic, highly collaborative, zero-ego team focused on building robust products.
Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary package with performance bonuses and clear technical career ladders.
